I like to watch ellen's TV show. I think it's producing poplar culture. The one I strongly remember story is two young girls sing some songs. one girl sings very well and talkative. On the other hand, another girl just diet and sings short part. Before they came up to the show, they were not famous, but after the show, they became famous and poplar. Their show on Youtube was getting hot video. For this fact, ellen's show is producing pop culture. In other word, the show triggers part of pop culture. I think this phenomenon is happened every poplar show.

Glog

we went to cultural center in downtown, at there we met a woman who has disability. We ask about pop culture and high culture. She thinks we have to learn both pop culture and high culture. Actually, I agree with her. Now we know that high culture is required a bit of academic knowledge. However, pop culture is enjoyable to everybody, and trend. Sometimes pop culture become high culture, it's like Shakespeare. His story was poplar the time he made. Later his story became famous, poplar again. It's repeating. We should know both of pop culture and high culture to make our comprehension widely. knowledge is one of factor that makes us feel enrichment.

Technology

One technology that I cannot live without is electricity. We really depend on this technology, electricity. I don't need cellphone, computer, and internet. We can live without them, just feel lonely, but I'm sure we will get use to the life without them. The reason is when I was at Japan, I should stay the mountain for 1 week for studying. At that environment, I couldn't use cellphone, computer, and internet. However, I could use electricity such as light or some machine for cooking. The things we need are food, place to live, and clothes. We need make food using electricity. Moreover we need light to see what is going on in the dark.

Movies

This story got the 1^st place of Oscar in 1961 (34^th). Setting is in New York, United State. There are two big gang groups; one is New Yorker, leader is Riff, another is immigrant, leader is Bernardo, mother language is Spanish. They hate each other. One night, there was a dance party between them, under the police supervision. Riff’s friend, Tony, shows up the party and he fallen in love with Bernardo’s sister, Maria. At the same time Maria feels, too. One day, Riff suggests Bernard rumbling, and winner will get all. Maria doesn’t like any rumblings, thus she asked Tony to stop rumbling. Tony tried to stop it, but when he saw Bernardo killed Riff, he couldn’t stand to be patient anymore, and killed Maria’s brother Bernardo, accidentally. Bernardo’s girl friend, Anita wanted Maria to separate with Tony, but Maria didn’t want to because she loved him so much. After all, Tony was shot by one of the immigrant members. Maria and Tony never get together. This is a tragic story like Romeo and Juliet.

Music

My favorite song is Jason Mraz, I'm yours. I like this song because I can understand what he songs about. Moreover his voice is so soft and touching. It suites his voice to sing this love song. I realized that I don't like the lady gaga's song or spears's song because I don't like noisy song. I like the old song or natural instrumental song. I think that the famous song is not only popular song. Especially, famous song is touching to our mind, or famous song can most of people nod (understand).

Reading

I liked to read "people like us" which is page 88-84. It says that this world is becoming more and more homogeneous. It is like a Melting pot. It makes our diversity go down. However I understand people like similar people. Because when I came to the US for the first time, surrounding me is all not Japanese. I feel lonely. Sometimes we need the people who is similar with us to share the ideas and problems. Indeed people prefer to make a group with similar person, but sometimes we have to communicate with other nationality's people. Because we live together on one planet so that we must know each other peacefully.

Cultural identity

I put both pop cultural images and traditional cultural images. While I was in Japan, I was in both environments. I live by myself near my university, during the time I feel like live with pop culture. However when I go back to my home town, I wear Kimono which is traditional Japanese cloth with my family on holidays.
My favorite image at traditional part is Kimono image. That is my 20th age ceremony and My mother took that picture at my garden. I felt I am Japanese, I could recognize what nationality I am. I like Kimono, and I feel pleasure to wear Kimono.
My favorite image of pop cultural part is school uniform. These days Japanese girls tend to cut their skirts. However, a decade  ago, it was poplar as long skirt. Right now, we are likely to make skirt short.

Pop Culture

Actually, some aspect of my awareness of pop culture is became weak, especially about fashion. On the othere hand, I pay attention to events in Chicago more than I was in Japan. I infer these changes' reasons is that related with my commiunication skills. Moreover, I just only stay in Chicago for 1 year so that I want to have many experienses in Chicago as much as I can. I feel Japanese girls are more likely to wear trandy clothes than Chicago girls does. I kind of along with fashion trand when I was in Japan, but here in Chicago, I don't really buy o watch fashion magazines. Nevertheless I do care about events of Chicago. I look for the event on newspapers, websites, advertisement and hear from friends. I joined Jazz festival, gay festival, taste of Chicago, and so forth.
What I have become aware of since taking this class is production. Acually we don't learn either peoduction or created stuff. However I did project of both music and movie. Before I take this class, I don't watch movie so much. In addition, I just istening the Japanese pop songs. Guradually, I pay attention to music and movies because I feel interesting when I distinguish wether pop culture or not. Eventualy, I discovered that I perfer high culture products, but I sometimes want pop culture creation. For example I'd like to listen to the old song which is not pop one, rather than listene to like ledy gaga pop music. In contrast, I like to watch pop movie such as the one which got the first prize place.
